Harness genomic insights for enhanced patient care
Unlock the power of genomics to support your daily work and collaboration within multidisciplinary teams. By integrating genomic insights into your role, you can elevate patient care, provide personalised support, and position yourself as a progressive healthcare
professional.
This online short course is designed for all people working and studying in health care to enhance knowledge of genomics and its influence on patient care.
The self-paced course opens on 14 October 2024, with access available for 3 months.
Modules
The course comprises of four modules:
- DNA and Genes: Explore the structure and functions of DNA, the central dogma of molecular biology, and the genetic code.
- Chromosomes: Learn about chromosome structure, abnormalities, and investigative techniques.
- Genetic Inheritance: Understand Mendelian patterns, pedigrees, and non-Mendelian inheritance.
- Genomics and Precision Medicine: Discover the role of genomic sequencing in modern healthcare, principles of genomic testing, outcomes, and the impact of precision medicine on health.
Learning outcomes
- Describe the structure, functions and chemical components of DNA and RNA, and their impact on disease.
- Explain the structure of chromosomes, their inheritance, and impact of chromosomal abnormalities on health.
- Interpret genetic Mendelian inheritance patterns, pedigrees, and their genetic counselling implications.
- Evaluate recent advances in genomics and precision medicine, and their impact on healthcare.
