Join our Sleep Scoring Bootcamp for professionals in adult sleep analysis!
The two-day adult sleep study analysis course offers a comprehensive introduction for sleep professionals aiming to enhance their skills in this area. Designed for sleep technologists, scientists, physiologists, advanced trainees, and physicians involved in reporting sleep studies, the course caters to a wide range of professionals in the field. Researchers working on sleep monitoring projects and individuals using sleep or breathing monitoring equipment will also find value in the course.
Participants can take the boot camp as a standalone course or as a continuation of the Sleep Medicine - Fundamentals short course, providing a cohesive learning experience in sleep medicine. Endorsed by the Australian and New Zealand Sleep Science Association (ANZSSA), the course grants 14 Continuing Education Credits (CECs), which can be beneficial for individuals holding the Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) qualification.
Key topics covered in the course include:
- Sleep staging and arousal scoring: Participants will learn to apply the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) criteria to allocate sleep stages and identify arousals accurately during sleep studies.
- Respiratory event scoring: Participants will be trained to apply the AASM criteria effectively to identify and score respiratory events in sleep studies.
- Advanced scoring: Participants will explore identifying less common sleep disorders and strategies to address challenging aspects of sleep studies.
- Software settings influence analysis: Participants will understand how software settings can impact the analysis of sleep studies and learn techniques to adjust for these influences effectively.
The course will equip participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in adult sleep study analysis. By the end of the course, participants will achieve the following learning outcomes:
- Successfully apply current sleep scoring guidelines to real studies for accurate analysis and interpretation of sleep data.
- Understand the limitations and challenges of applying sleep scoring guidelines, enabling participants to navigate complexities effectively.
- Become familiar with less commonly seen features of sleep studies, including both physiological and artefactual aspects. This will enhance proficiency in recognizing and interpreting diverse sleep patterns accurately.
Overall, the course provides a valuable opportunity for sleep professionals to enhance their expertise in adult sleep study analysis, stay updated with current guidelines, and expand their knowledge of sleep medicine.

Learning outcomes
- Apply current sleep scoring guidelines to actual studies, ensuring accurate analysis and interpretation.
- Understand the limitations and challenges of applying sleep scoring guidelines, enabling participants to navigate complexities effectively.
- Becoming familiar with less commonly seen features of sleep studies, including physiological and artefactual aspects, enhances proficiency in recognising and interpreting diverse sleep patterns.
Course delivery method
The in-person course will include lectures and extensive practical sessions to familiarise attendees with the current AASM scoring guidelines and the application of these. All tutors are familiar with several sleep recording systems. The software used in this course is G3 Sleepware.
Course pre-requisites
Participants must recognise the channels recorded on a sleep study, have a basic understanding of the common sleep disorders, and have basic computing knowledge.
